Abstract

GrayMatter Software's ScriptServer® PAN Printing System is a distributed printing system which is supported on various architectures including Linux, Sun Microsystems' Solaris, HP's HP-UX and Tru64.

Included with the product is a printer driver for Microsoft Windows. In some instances it may be necessary to stop and restart the Windows Print Spooler in order to re-install the PAN printer driver.

Reinstalling the PAN printer driver to use a different PAN

Normally you do not have to reinstall or reconfigure the PAN printer driver for Microsoft Windows:

However, the PAN printer driver accomplishes this magic because it knows which PAN to contact for configuration information. This information was encoded into it when you downloaded it from the PAN you wanted to use. This implies that if you need to use a different PAN installation, you need to download its personalized PAN printer driver: you can only have one PAN printer driver installed at a time.

Follow these steps to change your PAN printer driver:

  1. Bring up the Windows Printer Manager.
  2. Make sure that the PAN printer driver is not your default printer (if you only have the PAN printer driver, this does not apply).
  3. Delete your existing PAN printer driver.
  4. Connect to the desired PAN with your Web Browser.
  5. Download and install the PAN printer driver.

Restarting the Windows Print Spooler

If you get errors or the new PAN printer driver fails to install, the Windows Print Spooler service may have failed to release all of its resources. Stopping and restarting the Windows Print Spooler will ensure that all resources are released. Try again, with these additional steps:

  1. Bring up the Windows Printer Manager.
  2. Make sure that the PAN printer driver is not your default printer (if you only have the PAN printer driver, this does not apply).
  3. Delete your existing PAN printer driver.
  4. Bring up the Windows Services Control Panel.
  5. Locate the Print Spooler; it should be started.
  6. Double-click on it to bring up the management interface.
  7. Click the Stop button to stop it.
  8. Click the Start button to restart it.
  9. Connect to the desired PAN with your Web Browser.
  10. Download and install the PAN printer driver.
