Creating a Shared User Setup File

return to contents or index

Abstract

Sometimes it may be desirable for some group of users to share the same Setup File as a maintenance or management issue.

Discussion

Setup parameters can be set globally in the System Setup File. However, it is sometimes desirable to give a group of users different setup values different from the global ones, without giving them each a separate User Setup File to maintain.

The parameter USER-SETUP determines the name, and location if included, of the User Setup Files. In the System Setup File, XENTISSET.DAT, change the value assigned to the parameter USER-SETUP by appending a logical to the filename. For example, the parameter might be XENTIS$SETUP:SETUP.DAT where XENTIS$SETUP is a logical name and SETUP.DAT is the filename.

Create a group User Setup File in a central directory (for example, DISKA:[USER]).For any user that wishes to use this group Setup File, assign the logical XENTIS$SETUP to DISKA:[USER] in their login file.
