Managing Setup Parameters From Version To Version

return to contents or index

Abstract

If a parameter is seen more than once in XENTISSET.DAT, XENTIS uses the last occurrence. You can use this behavior to your advantage.

Q&A:

Question:

When I install a new version of XENTIS, I change some of the Setup file parameters in XENTISSET.DAT to our standard settings. The problem is that there are so many parameters, it is difficult to remember which ones I changed in the previous version. How can I simplify this process?

Answer:

In the System Setup file (and this holds true for user setup files as well), if a parameter is entered more than once, XENTIS uses the setting defined in the last occurrence.

When you install a new version of XENTIS, enter parameters that you wish to change at the end of the System Setup file. Although the original parameters and settings appear in the body of the file, the parameters you change are grouped together. Since the changed parameters appear at the end, these are the settings XENTIS uses.

When you install the next XENTIS release, cut the parameters from the bottom of the current System Setup file and paste them into the new one, thus restoring all your System Setup file changes from one release to the next.
