PROCEDURES FOR CREATING EPS INVOICE FORMS

Objective:

To get an image onto your computer as a raster file, clean it up in Photoshop, get over to Illustrator, and create a VECTOR file that looks the same as the original raster file, this will allow you to save it into as small an .eps file as possible.

Recommended software:

Adobe PhotoShopv3.0 or v4.0

Adobe Illustrator v6.0

A good book:

"Classroom in a Book, Adobe Illus. 6.0"

Solution:

The following procedure was tested on the Macintosh, but should be the same or similar elsewhere.

Scan original paper image as large as possible
Import scanned bit map to Photoshop 3.0 or 4.0
Clean up graphic elements, delete text in the graphics, as well as standard text and lines. You will put these back on to the Form later, with text writing tools in Illustrator.
Go to export file menu, save as "paths to Illustrator"
Import to Illustrator 6.0
Establish it as a LOCKED Layer, by going to the Layer palette and click the dot under the pencil, this locks it as a template you can see.
Create a new layer, then work on that layer separate from the original graphics.
Outline graphics with AutoTrace on that top layer.
Fill the Outline
Add in text using various text tools... wrapping, bold, size, etc..

To form text around a path, click the oval tool in toolbox, create a circle, select the "pathtype" tool in toolbox, pointer has a slanted cross bar indicating you can create text on a path, click top edge of circle, circle disappears and you see a blinking insertion point, type in text.

Save that layer, the top layer, as an .eps file. DO NOT PUT THE ORIGINAL GRAPHIC INTO THAT FILE! It is raster files that are HUGE when saved as .eps files, we want ONLY VECTORs in the file.
