ScriptServer PDF Broker software converts your printouts to PDF format and delivers the PDF via e-mail, local or shared folder, or by a customizable command file.

 How It Works

To other computers on the network, the Broker looks like a PostScript printer. So any host can send PostScript print data to be converted to PDF.

Converted PDF files are electronically distributed according to various criteria, called "routers."

Routers can be configured to e-mail the PDF file, place it in a (shared) folder, or to post-process the file using a command file, which can be a DOS-based .BAT or a Visual Basic-based .VBS file.

If more than one router's criteria matches the characteristics of an incoming job, all matching routers will be used to distribute the resulting PDF.

 About Routers

Routers are created based on two general criteria: the TCP/IP port number, and PostScript comments contained in the file.

Port-based routing allows you to route a PDF file based on the port it was received on. For example, network-ready HP LaserJet printers receive their print data over port 9100.

Comment-based routing allows you to route a PDF file based on the PostScript comments embedded in the PostScript header. These comments are based on the Document Structuring Conventions (DSC) published by Adobe for PostScript files in this specification. Supported comments are:

  • title
  • username
  • creating application
  • creation date
  • routing
  • user-defined data (GrayMatter extension for ScriptServer Printing Systems)
