GrayMatter Software Strengthens their Affinity with Digital Equipment

For Immediate Release

Seattle, WA. October 1, 1997- GrayMatter Software Corporation announces the new release of the ScriptServer® Printing System v5.1 for use on Digital EquipmentCorporation's OpenVMS platform. Its introduction strengthens the long standing relationship between GrayMatter Software and Digital Equipment Corp. The combined efforts of both companies over the last decade is best exemplified through Digital's Affinity program which aims to integrate the OpenVMS and Windows NT computing environments. GrayMatter Software and Digital Equipment have planned together a strategy to provide advanced enterprise-wide network printing solutions. Initial results of the Affinity alliance is best illustrated by the innovation of a central print server created by the combination of ScriptServer software and Digital hardware.

ScriptServer version 5.1 is easy to install, simple to use and features increased compatibility with third party PCL and PostScript® language compatible printers. ScriptServer v5.1 introduces a new component called the Network Console for use on a Windows® 95 or Windows® NT 4.0 desktop. The Network Console module utilizes TCP/IP so a user can simultaneously monitor and manipulate up to 2000 ScriptServer print queues from a single Windows machine. Windows users can also see the status of their print jobs, view command level system operator messages and receive printer alarms as they occur.

The unparalleled security and reliability of the OpenVMS platform is retained while using the ScriptServer Network Console in conjunction with Alpha and VAX architectures. Administrators have the ability to limit the control and access of Windows users with the security features of Rights and Classes. The recent development of the Network Console provides complete control for system administrators orchestrating their printing on the OpenVMS and Windows 95/NT environments.

"Our ScriptServer package lets users manage their print queues much more easily," said Tim Brunson, President of GrayMatter Software. Brunson adds, "...from one central location you have live status information and complete control of your queues regardless of where the printers are physically located." ScriptServer Self-Configuring TCP/IP Queues will test and automatically connect to the appropriate port of your IP (internet protocol) printers. Configuration parameters such as backchannel are then automatically configured. Repository Queues can streamline and organize your workload by capturing your PostScript output in a custom OpenVMS directory of your choice. The newly written code of ScriptServer v5.1 integrated with OpenVMS and Windows NT creates a powerful printing solution.

The ScriptServer Printing System is available for Alphas and VAXstations running OpenVMS versions 5.5 or later. Custom installation and options may be required and can vary from user to user. The ScriptServer® Printing System supports a myriad of major printer brands including Canon, Dataproducts, Digital, Genicom, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Kentek, Lexmark, NEC, QMS, Tektronix, Texas Instruments and Xerox.
