Electronic Forms are a feature of the ScriptServer® printing products, printing management utilities for the OpenVMS operating system and also for Windows and UNIX operating environments.

Store digital versions of your preprinted forms in a ScriptServer library as PostScript files. Simply retrieve one of these files as a form setup module. Electronic Forms superimpose the ASCII text from your application onto the form's fields. The digital forms are replicas of your preprinted forms, so you can use your application's existing ASCII files with them, including files from Unix and Windows NT. Print the completed form to a PostScript-compatible printer through the ScriptServer print queue. The form is sent to the printer only once per job, saving processing time on multiple copies. The image prints at the resolution of your printer the higher the resolution, the better the image quality.

How much do you spend to produce preprinted forms? Using ScriptServer OutperForm electronic forms software, you can reduce the expense of printing forms to the cost of paper and toner in your printer. You'll never need to pay up front for more supplies than you can use in a reasonable amount of time.

How much storage space do you need and pay for to keep your inventory of preprinted forms on hand? Would you like to eliminate that expense, or make better use of that shelf space? By switching to Electronic Forms, you can reduce your storage requirements significantly.

How much money spent on preprinted forms ends up wasted because of changes needed after printing? Add to that what it costs for reprints. With Electronic Forms, you can edit the electronic files and never have to dispose of obsolete forms or reprint forms again.

How much time and materials do you waste inserting and aligning preprinted forms when you load a line printer? Or to replace the forms lost in a paper jam, especially if you need to rerun the job? Eliminate these costs entirely when you use Electronic Forms, and no longer waste time loading different forms in the printer.

How much time and money is lost because forms are illegible or filled out incorrectly? Using Electronic Forms, input errors can be corrected without the expense of using more preprinted forms. Legibility problems caused by poor handwriting or poor-quality line printers can be avoided by filling out forms electronically and printing them on a high-resolution PostScript printer. Faxes made using high-quality PostScript output are much easier to read.

The digital artwork for a form must be created with vector-based illustration software (such as Illustrator™ or Freehand™) and exported in Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) format.

If you don't have the resources—the software, the personnel, or the production time—to prepare your artwork, we can do it for you. Just send us hard copies of your forms, and we'll make accurate EPS versions and convert them to Electronic Forms — we'll even edit PostScript code as needed to ensure proper placement of the ASCII form fields. We test the forms to make sure ScriptServer operates perfectly with your files. We can also adapt your legal- and tabloid-size forms to letter size.

Make form changes without sacrificing inventory and paying for reprints

Eliminate the cost of replacing preprinted forms destroyed by printer adjustments or jams

Avoid the expenses incurred when forms are illegible or filled out inaccurately

No need to buy illustration software

No need to divert staff from other projects to create forms

We're sure you'll agree that using Electronic Forms is the simplest and most economical method of filling out and printing forms—while gaining total control of your networked enterprise printing environment with ScriptServer's other print management features.

ScriptServer's Electronic Forms requires a PostScript printer and the OpenVMS operating system (version 4.6 or higher) on a VAX or Alpha computer system. Minimum system requirements include 2000 blocks of disk space; an asynchronous serial terminal port or parallel printer port; for LAT connection, a LAT terminal server; for TCP/IP connections, any UCX-compatible transport software and TCP/IP-based printer. (ScriptServer for Windows Clients and UNIX operating systems are also available .) Use of forms requires a license for the ScriptServer Printing System. The ScriptServer Network Option license is required for TCP/IP printing.

Electronic Forms and ScriptServer can be used currently with all printers providing standard OpenVMS printing and queueing services, and with Windows and UNIX print queues. In a multiple-printer environment, even a network of PostScript and non-PostScript printers from different vendors, ScriptServer ensures that print jobs are routed to printers with the required capabilities. ScriptServer is compatible with DEC PostScript printing software, as well as COBOL report files, FORTRAN carriage control, and SNA Gateway, a network interface to the IBM™ SNA network software. ScriptServer supports all resident PostScript fonts, nine paper sizes, and more than twenty envelope sizes.
