For Immediate Release
Seattle, WA. March 2, 1998 - GrayMatter Software Corporation today announced its first ever hobbyist license for the ScriptServer(R) Printing System software package. Anyone interested in utilizing and further developing ScriptServer software to work with third party software and hardware is eligible to use the license.
DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) hobbyists and novices are considered the largest group of people to make use of the license. There is no cost for the annually renewable single-queue license. Currently, more information about the license and access to the software can be done through the Dallas-Fort Worth Texas Local User Group (DFWLUG) or directly through GrayMatter Software.
Requirements for eligibility include a current membership with any DECUS (Digital Equipment Corporation Users Society) and the promise to share new ideas and concepts resulting from use of the software. "Many of our clients are Fortune 1000 companies so our hobbyist license gives individual users access to our software for free. It's an idea that has generally been unheard of in our industry," said Douglas Parsons, General Manager of GrayMatter Software.
A complete ScriptServer software package provides direct support for all of your OpenVMS printing management needs. ScriptServer's Network option utilizes communication protocols like TCP/IP potentially giving users worldwide printer control. The recently introduced ScriptServer Network Console expands printing control to the Windows® 95 and Windows® NT desktop. The Network Console application can simultaneously monitor and manipulate up to 2000 ScriptServer print queues from a single location. Users can see the status of print jobs, view command level system operator messages and printer alarms as they occur. The latest version of the ScriptServer Printing System® executes print jobs faster, it more efficiently handles communication protocol types and now has improved interactive user controls.
The ScriptServer Printing System® is available for Alpha AXP and VAX-based systems running on the OpenVMS platform version 5.5 or later. The ScriptServer Network Console requires the Windows® 95 or Windows® NT 4.0 operating system. Basic software package prices start at $495 U.S. The ScriptServer Printing System is designed to be device independent and supports virtually any PCL or PostScript-based printer from a variety of major manufacturers including Canon, Dataproducts, Digital, Genicom, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Kentek, Lexmark, NEC, QMS, Tektronix, Texas Instruments and Xerox.
